Default Converting back from Springs to SLS Suspension?

Hey guys, I have an 04 with the SLS option but the air bags were removed for coils sometime in the past. Was thinking about going back to SLS since all the parts execpt the airbags are still intact and I hate how saggy the rear end feels with a load of camping gear in it. Any thoughts on reverting to SLS or would it be better to keep the coils and get a heavier load spring?

Personally, I've never understood the rationale behind switching to coils.... maybe if you never carry any load but even then. With heavier springs it's going to ride like crap unless it's loaded.

I really don't understand the bad reputation the SLS system seems to have. It's a simple and pretty bullet-proof system. The most expensive component to replace is the compressor assembly and even that is in the sub $600 range. In the vast majority of cases the compressor fails because people have failed to replace leaking air springs. Air springs are wear and tear items just like shocks and brake pads. It's not a fault of the system that the springs eventually need replaced.

Anyway, from someone who regularly carries loads and tows there is zero chance I would go back to coil springs, period..... even if a new compressor was $2K there is no way I'd go coils.

When I was looking for a Disco, I really wanted one without SLS. But after having it, I really like the ride and the way you can load it up wtih people and not have any sagging in the rear.

I once loaded 1040 pound of slate rock in the back of my Disco with SLS and it sat perfectily level, road a little rough but that is just one reason I am a big SLS advocate.

Thats exactly why I want to revert back, the system is there, why not take advantage of it? I just dont like how the truck rides loaded down, bounces around like a pogo stick off road. Thanks Mike, I will send you a message later.

Yeah I loaded firewood to the roof inside with no rear seats. It rode fine, I love the SLS. I have a spare genuine LR air spring sitting in the box when the time comes. Gotta love eBay. I have replaced the level sensors once with new used ones... It still works great with my OME 2" lift. I have the system tricked to the height that looks correct.
