Default Back door won’t close! Need help

I hope someone can help. I driver about 7 hours to take care of my father who is very I’ll. I get here get my stuff out of my discovery 2 and the door won’t close. I really don’t have the money to have someone fix it. Excuse my lack of terminology but the metal part that hooks into the frame doesn’t move at all. I was hoping it was something easy to fix. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

A pic of what you are referring too? Is it the hinge side or the latch side?

Spray the latch with a lot of WD40. Engage the handle for the latch without shutting the door. Spray some more. Repeat until it is unstuck.

Also, liberally spray WD40 up into the handle area as well.

I watched a Atlantic British video on lubricating and working the handle. I have sprayed everything on it and worked it but I am letting it sit for a few then trying it all over again. Went through snow storm in the mountains and wondering if the road grime messed it up

What is the rubber-looking piece that seems to be crunched all up in there? Could that be preventing the mechanism from moving?

It does look a little chewed up. I was wondering if that was it. I finally got it to close thank goodness
