Hello all,

I just recently had several things fixed on my Disco II, including plugs, plug wires, coil packs, 02 sensors, valve cover gaskets, fuel injectors and throttle body gasket.

Now there is a severe coolant leak from the left hose (when looking at the vehicle from front to back) going into the heater core. The leak seemed to be a squirt from the end of the hose AFTER the clamp and before the body of the car. All of my coolant drained very quickly.

Does this sound like a clogged heater core or is it more likely the hose/clamp? If it is the heater core could I bypass it without causing damage to the vehicle?

Not necessarily the heater core. I would remove the hose, and check to make sure it is not deteriorated and check the metal pipe for the same. In answer to your question, you can bypass the heater with not problems. You can also disconnect both heater hoses and see if your heater core is in fact clogged by running water thru it or blowing out with compressed air. to me it sounds like new hose and clamps are in order.

 

The hose would have been removed along with the coolant rail to replace the valve cover gaskets. The pipes extending from the firewall are somewhat soft and easy to bend, and careless removal can make them out-of-round, and subsequently leak. Another cause results from using screw-type clamps which can collapse the pipe.

 

As someone who just replaced some of the factory clamps with the screw-type clamps, did I make a mistake?

 

no, just don't over tighten them....

 

98% chance it is a damaged pipe from the Valve Cover job, 2% chance it is JUST the clamp. The spring clamps are what should be used.

 

The clamps do not have screws and do not have springs and appear to be fine. I will reinspect the inlet pipes and look for damage.

In the event that the inlet pipe is out of round, how would I go about repairing it/replacing it?
