Default Bad vibration over 60 mph

Hello, I bought a 2001 Discovery II with 128K miles. It has a bad vibration that is very noticeable when you accelerate and is constant and an annoyance over 60 mph.

I drove the car without the front shaft to rule out a problem with it and the car vibration went significantly down, there was still some sligth vibration when you accelerate but nothing compare to before and no annoying vibration over 60 mph.

So, I change the front shaft, I put one sold in Atlantic British and it did not helped at all. I then bought another one from Tom Wood's shafts and had the exact problem. Since the front diff was leaking oil, we changed the seal and took the opportunity to put a new front diff. This did not help either. I have no idea what the problem is, engine mounts? Transfer case? Should I need to rebalance the front shaft? The vibration is mostly on the right front side of the car (well at least it appears to be). I have also rotated, and balance the tires.

Any suggestions are welcome, I don't want to keep changing parts with no idea what is causing the vibration.

Thank you,

There are so many things that cause vibes, from wheel balance to bad CV joints. It's very difficult to 'guess' your problem but I would start with getting the tracking checked and wheels balanced. Check the track control and drop links for ball end slack, also the wheel bearings and finally the diff pinion bearings front and back. There are some other points, engine mountings front and back and also the rear driveshaft UJ and the rubber doughnut.

I have also rotated, and balance the tires.
Have you checked for play at x-box front output flange and front diff input flange?
......

Did it have a salvage title? Front end collision could have bent the frame.

2X my thought as well.
And maybe some tire balance issue for the slight vibration with the drive shaft removed.

Is it safe to do a Neutral gearshift coast test at 60 mph in a Disco 2?

You want to isolate the problem to a wheel/suspension (e.g. bent rim) or drivetrain/motor vibration (e.g. transfer case problem).

Too much front toe will cause vibration as well. If you lifted your truck, or someone else did, they probably didn't get it aligned after. Wheels are commonly out of balance too. My disco throws wheel weights off every so often.

Thank you all for the input.

So a few things I have noticed and corrected so far.

- One of the brake calipers on the rear was failed so we changed both rear calipers and rotors in case the other one was going to fail too. We thought this might solve it, but no.
- The car has no crashes nor is salvaged, actually from the outside is in very good shape.
- When I am driving at 65 to 70 mph if I let the accelerator go the vibration goes away.
- There is vibration at acceleration from 0 - 40 mph, it disappears until I reach about 65 mph, is pretty bad over 70 mph.
- I removed the front shaft (original) and drove it without it (diff locked) and the vibration disappeared, so we put two brand news ones from different suppliers and the issue remains unchanged.
- I have balanced and rotated the tires, but I will do it again today or tomorrow and let you guys know. I will also inspect as suggested above the links, cv joints, etc.
- There is no play at all in the front shaft.
- Front diff has also been changed and there is no play in it either.
- How can I check if the transfer case is in good shape, could that be the case?
- How can I check if the engine mounts are in good shape?
- I was thinking that the rear shaft or the other connections should be fine since when we drove it without the front shaft there was no noticeable vibration. (there was a little rumbling at about 2000 rpm during acceleration)

Thank you
