Default Which bank is which?

I was looking through the rave cd when I was changing my knock sensor yesterday and could not find which side is bank 1 and which side is bank 2. I assumed that bank 1 was the drivers side so I changed it. Was I right? If I wasn't I am going to change both but so far my CEL hasn't come back on. Thanks! (wish I had internet at home so I could ask the questions as they come up instead of in hindsite...Oh Well)

Bank one is the left side because cylinder one is on the left side.

Bank 2 is the right side because...

Just curious, why are you changing a knock sensor, they rarely fail, did you have a specific fault code show up?

Yeah I forget the actual code number but it said specifically knock sensor bank 1 and a evap code. Neither has come back since the change so I guess Im good. Spike I am a dumb *** for not looking in the rave to see which cylinder is which... I was thinking along the same lines wishing I had a pic of the cylinders that I saw on here... I am absent minded sometimes but oh well. Thanks for the help guys!

No problem.
Now pack this away in your scatter brain's brain

#1 cylinder is always in the same spot on any engine.
If it is a in-line engine, it is the one closest to the front on the engine.
The front of the engine is where all the pulleys are.
On a "V" engine, v-6, v-8, v-12...#1 is the first cylinder on the right closest to the front, then #2 is the first closest to the front on the left.
Odd numbered cylinders are all on the same side, same with even.
Now the firing order can be anything they want.
But that is how cylinders are numbered.
If I am wrong then someone please set me on fire and correct me.
