Just because the dealer wants a stupid amount of money for the fix, doesn't automatically make it a blown HG.

Here Here!!
Would it surprise anyone here that a dealer wants $3500 to do a Throttle Body Gasket!

Unfortunately, I don't have $1,200 - $1,500 right now, so I guess I'll just have to keep adding anti-freeze every couple of days. I am taking it to a local shop next week to have them look at the suspension issue I posted about a few days ago. I'll see if they can determine the cause of the leak. These guys I trust (strongly recommended by friends with Rovers).
Not trying to be mean but if you don't have enough money to maintain a disco and can't or won't DIY then just sell the truck before you end up selling it to the junk yard with a dead engine.

First, it is your truck, granted, but you are a fool if you use a dealer and pay their prices for things normally not needed. Second, if someone tell you of a bad part or seal, pay attention, we have no way of helping you when you don't have a clue.
Fill your coolant bottle all the ay to the lip every morning, go find a good small Rover shop, get an estimate and get back to us with it so we can help you.

My wife drove it to work this morning and one of the guys there took a look. He's pretty sure the leak is from the water pump. He said he can see the pulley and belts wobbling in and out just a bit and fluid leaking from the shaft. He recommended that we drive it as little as possible until we can get it looked at. It's scheduled to go to the mechanic on Wednesday.

nine times out of ten its the HG. Worse part though is the heads leak oil and the intake will leak both. Sometimes its the intake but you only know by pulling off the intake. By then you are in for a penny and out for a pound.

be ready to do both since most of the time both go.

My wife took it to a recommended Rover mechanic and the problem is the water pump. Unfortunately, he's got people out for the holidays and can't get to it until next week. He recommended another mechanic a short distance away that he knows. They're going to try to get it replaced this afternoon. If not, it will be tomorrow. Including a radiator / coolant flush, it will be about $650.
