As the title says, my battery is dead, my drivers side key hole is broken and i need to get my hood open to charge the battery so my keyless entry will work. Has anyone popped their hood from outside their disco before? All ideas welcome.

 

go in the pasenger or back door, the alarm wont go off with the battery dead, duh

 

I dont care if the alarm goes off. there is no key hole on the passenger side or back of the truck.

there is a nail like pin on the back of the driver's door key tumbler. It is the only key hole on the DII. It is prone to break. YOu may need to call a locksmith to open the door, cheaper than a brick and the resulting window replacement. I did see a unique way to open a door using a tennis ball with a hole in it on youtube recently. Compressed air might do the same thing. You put the ball with the hole over the key hole, then push the ball against the door, forcing the air into the door and viola, the door lock will open, frankly I don't believe that it will work, but it did on youtube. There really just is no good way to fix the problem you have; you're going to have to pay a locksmith to pick the driver's door cylinder.

They use decent cylinders, too; it's not going to be easy.

 

well, i found the cable through the grill that unlatches the hood so tomorrow morning im going to go buy some giant needle nose pliers and try to get it to pop. i might have to strip some of the rubber off of it to get to the actual cable but thats my best shot right now.

 

Aside from how stupid it is to have only one key operated lock....
Crawl up under the car and connect the positive lead of the charger to the starter supply cable that comes from the battery. Connect the neg to a good ground. Charge your battery.

 

The problem is going to be that a) you're going to have to pull the cable *against that jacket you want to strip off*, and b) you are, obviously, going to trash the cable in the process.

My intuition is that you're going to end up paying both a locksmith *and* someone to replace the hood cable, personally, but good luck with it.
