Default Battery Options

I'm having some battery woes.....Curious as to what battery brand you guys are running and overall satisfaction. I currently have a O'reilly's Platinum 34/78 AGM and barely cranked over this morning. This will be the second one in 4yrs. I previous had a DieHard Plat - 850CCA (Odyssey Clone). That sucker lasted for 8yrs before I did it in one winter....user error. Before that I ran several Optima Red Tops that were constantly replaced under warranty and a total headache. I have noticed that Autozone and OReillys Group 34/78 batteries don't have side terminals which sucks for some of the accessories I have wired up but not a deal killer. I see the new Odyssey batteries are 4 bills and that sticker shock is staying with me. Thanks

I have swapped my entire fleet over to Rural King batteries. I get the ones with both top post and side post as well as a handle so they can fit whatever I throw them in, and the price is right at $60 each. I've bought probably 12 of 15 of them in total including for work vehicles at my prior job. Currently have four of them in my personal fleet, the oldest of which is well over two years old, maybe almost three. I've yet to have one go bad.

I'm using X2Power in everything now. They're an AGM made by Northstar for Batteries Plus stores. The Disco got one last week, since the 10 month old Die Hard from the PO wasn't liking the cold weather at all. Even have a big one in my Deere tractor.
I'd rather spend the money than constantly fight with dead or dying batteries.
I had a small Odyssey in my track car for years. I think it was replaced under warranty every twelve months. Even hooked up to a maintainer.

Thanks for the replies. @Alex_M No Rural Kings around here. The closet one is a couple hour drive. I checked on Farm N Fleet ($140.00) and Tractor Supply ($170.00) and their 34/78 get good reviews. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I always forget about those places as they are not in the Chicago area. @ace10 What battery of the XD did you go with for the Disco? They recommend the Group 24 on Batteries+ site? They have a 34/78 as well. Either way the shop has to order it for me. They are out of stock on both. I may just go that route since they are closer to me.

Group 34 for the DIsco. They actually had it in stock. Which is weird. They never have a Group 27 for my Toyotas when I need one. Only a day or two for the stock to come in.
The X2Power does come with a spacer to lift it up a bit in the tray. Watch out for the small coolant line that routes past the battery box. Mine got broken during install.
Code "Auto20" will knock $40 off the price.

I’ve had good luck with Interstate batteries. I don’t think it’s a Canada only company.

I'm running an Odyssey group 34 battery with standard and secondary poles on it. Def a bit spendier than a lot of the off the shelf options though so something to consider. There weren't any good options locally for me that had extra standoffs for me to mount up accessories.

Ditto on the Northstar or Odyssey batteries (from Enersys parent company). I work in the commercial truck industry. They have one of the best reliability performance, albeit more pricey.

Sounds like optima isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. I had great luck with the first red top I had (which came from a Napa in wicker park) which made it 7+ years.

When it comes to car batteries, I prefer the "keep it simple" route. The EverStart Maxx Group 34 battery sold by Walmart is rated at 800 CCA and has a 3 yr, full replacement (5 yr. pro-rated) warranty. All Walmart EverStart batteries are made by Johnson Controls. They serve me well, and no matter where I am in the U.S. a Walmart is likely not far away.
