i don’t even know where to begin on how to get a new block…

might just part it out and scrap the car.

 

Several breakers sell used engines, go for a 4.0 block. You are west coast so one of the guys out there would be better and not have to ship from east coast.

 

Hmm. Anyone know -- how does this damage pattern happen? I wonder if this was there prior and for how long... ? Do you have more pics -- I've seen several D2/P38 LR damaged engines torn apart, have not seen something looking exactly like this before.

 

I’ve read about this quite a bit in the history of Land Rover. Poor quality control, poor tooling. Air pockets in block casting - it really should have been a class action scenario.

 

That appears to be liner damage rather than block damage... There is a place in Anaheim that replaces liners... Can't remember the name right now... They are known for doing top hat liner replacements at about $1500...

I'm on vacation right now so don't have the luxury to search for you.

 

Well it is liner damage now but that does not happen wihtout the block underneath being cracked - time for a different engine block. 4.0's did not have near as many problems, blocks are the same, get one.
