Beating a dead hose, reverse light switch?
Ok here are the facts, 2004 auto with 120KM. All brake and rear fog lights work, the back up sensors work, the rear wiper works when turned on, but they do NOT come on if fronts are on and i put in reverse and i have NO reverse lights. F25 fuse replaced, bulbs replaced....should I start with a multi meter at the reverse light housing? I have a feeling there is a short somewhere along the harness. I know the XYZ is good, as i see "R" when placed into reverse and i have 0 dash warning lights. So im thinking either the reverse light switch is bad? BUT I'm not sure if that switch also affects the wipers....or somewhere the wiring needs to be fixed...any advice would be appreciate. I am taking into my local shop but they are not LR specialists...TIA
Also if I need a reverse light switch (which you cannot find/and arevery expensive, because why not?) has anyone done this method
Yes, you can use a separate switch on a Discovery 2's reverse lights, triggered by the shifter position, but this is a custom installation. The factory setup uses a switch integrated into the gearbox or its linkage, which is the recommended and more reliable method. If you want to install a separate switch, you will need to physically tap into the transmission shift linkage and rig a separate, compatible switch to operate off the movement of the shift mechanism when in reverse.
Factory reverse light switch

Factory reverse light switch
- Location: The factory switch is typically located on the gearbox casing or linkage, such as on the R380 manual gearbox or the XYZ switch on automatic transmissions.
- Function: It is designed to automatically activate the reverse lights when the transmission is shifted into reverse.
- Method: You can wire a separate switch inline with the reverse lights.
- Activation: The switch will need to be physically triggered by the movement of the gear shifter mechanism. This requires a mechanical connection to the linkage, or to the part of the gearbox that moves when reverse is selected.
- Complexity: This is a custom modification and may require fabrication and custom wiring to ensure it functions correctly.
