To your point the material in brake rotors has changed from the time of racing 935s .... I had race cars in the 80s that suffered the same heat plague and the drilled rotors formed cracks. I can assure you that none of my current Brembo Big Brake kits or Alcon or other racing brakes have suffered this. Neither have my EBC on my D2.

Hello everyone,

I know this thread is old, but I am hoping someone sees my reply.
I am planning on replacing the brake pads and rotors on my 03 Disco II.

I am considering one of the two following combinations:
  1. Akebono pads + TF rotors
  2. Akebono pads + EBC rotors
Based on this thread, either combination would be beneficial for my Disco.
I am just wondering if there have been any new developments in pads/rotors since this thread was created (since 2014)?

Have any new pads been created that are even better than the Akebono pads?
Have any new rotors been created that are even better than TF or EBC rotors?

Thanks in advance

Option 2... Akebono pads and EBC rotors work fit my Disco 2...
- EBC GD Sport Drilled & Slotted Rear Rotors #GD957 & Front Rotors #GD994
- Akebono ceramic rear brake pads #ACT493 & front brake pads #EUR676

I have EBC rotors on my Jag because I like how aggressive they look, but you really don't need fancy rotors. Money would be better used in other mods IMO.

I replaced my EBC rotors and Akebono pads with the same parts as there was nothing new out there.
Don't know about the TF rotors to comment.

I'm still rocking the Brake Motive/Power Stop Rotors and Ceramic brake pads on my 02 Kalahari with excellent results. Hardly any brake dust, and the finish on the rotors still looks good.

I have the powerstop set up, with the ceramic pads. very good value, and good service. I like Akebonos on my other cars, german, but for the Rover, the Powerstop are a deal.
