Default Best cigarette port phone charger for 2004 D2?

I bought a random adapter at a gas station. It doesn't work, at least when the car is on. What's one brand confirmed to work with 2004 Discovery 2's and is there a possibility that the charging port is dead? Thanks

don't bother the port is essentially dead. Buy a new replacement from amazon and replace it.

Rip it out and do a Y2k upgrade. Get a 2 port 5A USB which mounts into that spot and ditch the brittle OEM cigarette lighter & adapters goodbye!

Thanks. I'm new to modifying vehicles (and this forum) but I'm open to making this change. Can you link to an amazon page for the specific product? It would be helpful in finding tutorial videos and such

I hadn’t thought about doing this until seeing this post. Also like to know what’s recommended. Looking on Amazon there are several choices and they come with wiring. Can you use the original wires ?

Random comment of the day but the OP mentions buying the adapter at a gas station. Anyone here ever go to truck stops and get sucked into their automotive section? They have a ton of impulse buy stuff there and cool toys for the kiddos. Need a whip antenna for the rear tire carrier..? TRUCK STOP!

This is what I'm talking about. They come in many different colors, types, charging AMP's, styles. Some people swear by keeping their LR 100% OEM and that's fine, but I prefer small upgrades and ditching the cigarette lighter port for something like this = upgrade in my book.

The first thing I would do is check to make sure a fuse isn’t blown. That outlet is wired up on the same circuit as your review mirror, so if that’s not working either its an easy check. This happened to me recently because a poor quality accessory was plugged in and came apart in the outlet and shorted it out. At any rate I also recently replaced the outlet in my truck (it was very loose) and at the same time replaced the ash tray with 2 USB charger ports (with an integrated voltmeter, which is kind of nice). I agree with the philosophy of Best4x4, if I can make small upgrades to bring my truck in to the modern world I do.

To get at the outlet and install the new one you need to partially disassemble the center console, not entirely though, just enough to get you hand up behind there. I think the terminals will just plug right in to the new one, just mind the polarity (positive/negative).

Is there a good beginner’s thread for removing the console and rewiring? I’m sure it’s easy but like I said I’m a total newbie.

I kept a cigarette lighter there so it looks like stock but then put a 2 usb port into the ashtray or coin thing, whichever one is on the driver side. I drilled out the stock one vs 3d printing one, however that has it's own difficulties of brittle plastic and large drill bits that tend to grab...lots of filing was done.

Hardest part about pulling the center console is the shifter ****, just pull inline with it and it will come but if it's never been done it can be a real pain...I can't remember a guide but I think there is one. Pull the rubber mat and there are screws underneath the shifter bezel I believe. The sides have a few and in the cubby. Be very careful with the window switch panel, that is a delicate piece. Sorry for rambling, it's been a while since I've had mine apart but go slow and look everywhere for screws and don't force anything and you'll be alright.
