Default Best code reader?

Hi all,

My '03 Disco II (68K) has the 3 amigos plus the brake light. Looking for a good code reader to figure out what is wrong. Question though; is this the best route to go or should I just take it to a dealer and have them read and reset the codes? From reading other posts, it seems like I will not be able to reset the codes anyway, correct?

Thanks!

Engine code readers do not read ABS, SLS or SRS faults so stop looking.
What have you checked so far?
Are your brakes squeaking, if you throw a panic stop can you feel the ABS pulsation thru the brake pedal?

Gotcha. Well, I haven't checked anything so far. It just happened recently. (They had been intermittent to this point, but now they stay on...)

I do have squeaking coming from the front brakes, but the pad thickness is fine. Can squeaking really throw these fault lights?

I haven't tried a panic stop yet to see if the ABS is working.

Should I head to the dealer and have them read/reset the codes?

Is youir red brake light on the dash on?
If so you are low on brake fluid.
How do you know the brake pad thickness is fine?

Yes, squeaking brakes are probably the biggest cause of the 3 amigos. What brand of brake pad is on the truck now> You might try removing them, clean everything and spray lots of sound deadenin spray on the backs of all the pads. If the squeak goes away you can then get the codes read and cleared, if they still squeak then go to Atlantic British and order some better pads.
As for the panic stoop, go do it TODAY and get back to us.
As for the dealer, NO, find a local Rover shop that can read and clear the codes, but only after correcting the brake squeak and doing a panic stop.
