Default Best engine gaskets

I am looking to replace my oil pan gasket on my 2000 DII. Is a gasket a gasket or is there a recommended brand?

Thanks

They'll all fail eventually, you'd be better off doing a great job getting the heads machined and torquing down the bolts correctly than getting a better gasket.

well I don't see why "you'd be better off doing a great job getting the heads machined and torqueing down the bolts correctly than getting a better gasket." if you changing your oil pan gasket, but what do I know.

Get any brand name gasket and put a very thin coat of black RTV on both sides (very thin) then torque it in place it. That's how I did mine over 2-years ago and it does not leak a drop and has never required tightening. JMHO

People have also used Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker. But while you are in there, consider cleaning off the oil pickup screen, and replacing the O-ring or seal for that pickup tube, and a dab of loctite on the two bolts that hold it in place.

ZGphoto must have been out again with that 600 mm lens pointed at the spring break gals on the beach oggling his Disco, just a little fogged up this morning....

Thanks for the gasket assistance. Savannah thanks for addressing the cleaning of the pickup screen. I was going to ask if any additional items should be addressed while the pan is off.

Thanks again,

Whatever gasket you decide on, I recommend YamaBond ... Yamaha's very own gasket sealer/maker... the shiz is great I use it on everything.
