Default Best/Recommended AM Universal CARB Compliant Catalytic Converters?

OK, per the Land Rover dealer (yes, I went to the dealer as no one else would do the diagnostics), concluded that both Catalytic converters are bad and need replacing on my '01 Disco. I'm in SoCal, so I need to replace the originals with CARB compliant universal cats. Land Rover no longer offers Genuine Cats. There appear to be a bunch of brands and options.

Any recommendations on which brand/model to go with?
Brands include:
- AP Exhuast, AirTek, Car Sound (Magnaflow), Eastern Mfg, Valina, or Walker.

Needs to meet Test Group: 1LRXT04.6001

Any other recommendations/tips when swapping out the Cats?

Thanks!

After some review and discussions with some of the vendors and shops, appears all the CARB certified AM cats are very similar, so opted for these. Getting them installed today. Hope this resolves the CEL (the Land Rover dealer said the cats were bad. I tried Catalytic Converter fuel cleaners and didn't work - after two drive cycles, the CEL came on both times after the 3rd cycle sequence.

I ordered them online from Autozone. $320 each plus tax. FedEx overnight shipping, no cost.

Tell whoever is doing the work that you want the old cats back. If you take them to a cat recycler you'll find they are worth as much as your new ones cost.

Yep. Retained the original CATs as well as the boxes the CARB EO compliant CATs came in for documentation. Quite the racket dealing with all this in Cali.

Quick update (for the record) - Did the prescribed LR Disco drive cycle, took it to the Smog Station and passed smog. What a hassle but glad I'm now good for the next few years.

Does the passenger side cat not touch the frame? The factory one there is more flat. Thats looks like a tight fit.

It's tight but about the same clearance as before ~ 5/8 to 3/4" gap. These AM CATs are noticeably smaller. The heat shield is against the frame as well, though it may have made more sense to have the heat shield on the drive shaft side. With that, I was worried as well that it may not fit when I dropped it off. They did a nice job fabricating SS pipes with bends to accommodate the original Y-pipe routing.

Hey all,

Not to necro a thread but while searching for cats under the possibility that this may very well happen at some point (SoCal) I bumped into a site that gives a list of CA approved cats for the disco (and a lot of other vehicles).
Ca Approved Cats List

Not sure how to post a table, but I saved the page in case the site ever goes away.

Took a screenshot of the table so its at least here. Follow the link until it dies to make its the most up to date but at least we'll have a snapshot here.
