So Ellie is gonna need shocks in the near future. I'm not going to lift it and only do some light off-roading. What's everyone's choice for an on road upgrade?

 

Same here......at 110k miles, my shocks are toast. Looking for on-road shocks, no lift.

Redduc, should probably replace coil springs too as they are most likely toast.

 

Looking at shocks earlier and saw Bilstein shocks for rover. they said its the best but the price for a set is almost like having a complete Old Man Emu medium duty setup.

 

Please post what you find. My road tires are practically new so I won't be swapping tires for probably 2 years. I also run 18-inch wheels. I was thinking a 2-inch terra firma lift kit for $500 but now thinking just put a stock OEM shock/spring set. My shocks are shot.

I am sitting at 32.5 inches ground to wheel well height. 34.5 inches with a 2 inch lift would look funny with my wheels and tires.

I read Bitpart has a 1.5" kit and OME no-lift is another option.

Problem is I can't find a replacement, medium duty, no-lift shocks and springs kit for the same $500 as the 2-inch kit. Anyone find a replacement kit for all 4 wheels, no lift, for $500?

 

Bilsteins are the best I have experienced, but expensive as stated.

 

Put the standard Terra Firma shocks/struts on my D2 last year. Really happy with them and didn't break the bank.

That's awesome. Now I need to find 4 springs for $250 to get shocks and springs combined for $500.

Wonder if I can buy the 2" terra firma lift kit, put only the shocks on now then put the springs later when I change tire size? These shock kits say the shocks can handle 2" of lift so the shocks should work the same on a no-lift and lift truck?

 

Thanks for the replies. I'm a Bilstein fan and have had them on a few cars, but it would be tough to justify the expense. I'll likely go with the Terra Firma's.

 

Pleased with my Terra Firmas. Were cheap shipped from the UK.

 

I put brand new bilsteins on old original springs and wore them out in less than 10k miles.

I would not recommend you put new shocks on a high mile original spring truck.

Especially expensive ones.

I have OME MD +2 and after 2.5 years they are starting to ride less stiff. So shop around and know what you are looking for. Stock OEM replacements are a fine option and Lucky8 has them cheap.

If i had it to do over again, for a minimally offroad vehicle, I would get those L8 stock replacement springs and Bilstein shocks.
