Was looking at a flowkooler from the USA, living in nz is a pain sometimes .
was 139 usd plus 77usd freight, I looked on Amazon but nothing stood out .
are there better brands ?

 

A long-time contributor here used to recommend an Airtex water pump with a brass impeller. When I had to replace the water pump in my truck four years ago, I found that the pump with the brass impeller was no longer made by Airtex. I instead went with the Airtex AW9369.

 

While the FlowKooler is pricey w/ shipping it's a quality piece. I had an Airtex w/ brass impeller that was recommended on the board. I installed it in 2019 and it didn't make it long unfortunately. It became loose and the fan started the wobble. Luckily I caught it before it gave way. This D2 has only had one other pump replaced after factory gave out. It was a Beck Arnley and that lasted 9yrs. I switched it out when doing top end rebuild to the Airtex. The FlowKooler is the best quality pump of them all. It actually dropped my temps in the summer at idle on the freeway as claimed. If your looking for that benefit it's worth it IMHO.

 

They look quality made, and the price is fair, its just I bring in clothing from the states that’s 4 times heavier and is half the price lol..

 

FlowKooler is the bomb!!!! I've installed a good amount of them and I've got 3 on my personal LR's. Much more flow at lower RPM's vs OEM impeller. Highly recommend!

 

I think I’m who suggested you get a Flowkooler. Significantly more expensive- even in the States- but it’s a buy once, cry one deal. In my Alveston, it is the first time I did a water pump, but I’ve done 3 cooling systems in my Discos and the Flowkooler keeps temps WAY more stable. In my experience, the temps in the 4.6 are way more fickle than the 4.0 for whatever reason, and the Flowkooler has kept them in the correct range much better. This is not a fully empirical analysis, but I’m a nut about temps (this is why I’ve also never done head gaskets), but it is one “upgrade” on the D2 that seems worth it- especially if you are in need of a new pump.

 

Airtex used to be the common rec, but I’ve personally gone through three since 2019 between two discos. The failure has always been at the bearing, coolant starts leaking out the weep hole. Next time I need a replacement I’m going with a Flowcooler. Good parts are hard to come by these days!

I have the one with the bronze impeller. Had it for about 10 years now and it's worked great. I don't see them available anymore. I want one of those Flowkoolers now that I see them, but I don't need one yet. Because my water pump is working fine, the Nissen radiator would be a better upgrade for me as I could drop some weight, but the original brass radiator is also working fine, not even slightly plugged and hardly bloomed at all. I hope these cool parts are still around in another 10 years when I'll probably need them.

 

I've been trying to actually reach out to FlowKooler to be a sponsor for the 2023/2024 Hill Country Rover Rally, but their online form is worthless for that. They're a good company and the only people I know that took the time to do the R&R for our Rover V8's. Zero issues with them, and each unit I've received has been top notch. AB & Rovers North sell water pumps for 80-130.00, but nothing will come close to the updated and improved impeller design. On a D1/D2 you can watch the return flow back into the reservoir. Give it a little throttle and you can see how much more flow there is vs the OEM.
