Default Picking a donor D2

I should have stated my question better. I am going to be given a disco 2 for free. I have to pick which one I want. Was told there are 6 disco’s to choose from. All are not running. I have no knowledge of the disco’s nor does the other party. I have to walk up, look at the Rovers and pick one. With limited knowledge I need to pick one best to fit my needs.

An 04, and/or the one in the best condition.
No rust on frame, the most parts left on it that could be sold. Or one in a color you like better, or that appears to need the least work of them all, that you could get running.

Any you can get with a title (if you plan on driving it), zero rust, and best overall shape.

Yes to that! little or no rust 04 is worth saving than a good running rusted ones. No matter what upgrade you do or fix, the rusted frame will always bug you. Cheers

I’d take a 2001 TD5 Disco 2 anyday.
Or a 1993 LR Defender TD5. But that’s another topic.

Define "major tick" and "grenade". Was your tick actually a knock? Did it really explode into pieces of shrapnel or did it just lock up and never turn again?

Can't blame 2003-04 block issues if the actual problem was prior bad maintenence and subsequent rotating assembly issues.

Direct quote from the FND Institute of Automotive Research:

"The 2001 SE built in Dec 2000 is the best possible D2 to own"

I find it funny when ‘03 & ‘04 owners take it personal when people say how bad those 2 years of Discos were. Even when I lived in England I was told repetively from LR mechanics to stay way from those 2 models. Sorry...
