In need for a bike rack. Kids got new bikes and no longer fit in back. Looking to purchase a hitch bike rack that holds 4 bikes. I heard that due to the spare on back, not all of them fit.

This is true. I have an OLD Yakima 4 bike rack, and it will not fit with the spare tire on. I just took it off and put in the back.

 

Im in the same boat right now...Kids bikes are to big to fit in the back...and my wife just got a bike and they want me to get one...What options are there besides the hitch mount ones?

 

Hitch mounted ones east to modify. The square tube that fits in hitch plug is 2.25" x 2.25" square tube that is available through your local steel supplier.

Machine shop can make you an extended one for not too much at all, or just bust out the drill press.

The softride and similar ones are just held together with pins and cheap MIG welds.

Take a look at these... They are bad *** and well built. I have roof racks on my volvo but will put these on my disco..
