Bilstein Shock Install?
Hi all,
I just got a set of front & rear Bilstein Shocks. I'm going ot install them on the weekend.
The rear shocks have been out and the top mount washers are installed different on both sides. One side is domed. Which way should they be?
Any other tips for a trouble free install?
thanks,
Nick.

yeah they take a bit to get moving!
I might try to tie them with some light twine before fitting. I can then fit them compressed and snip the twine after.

You don't need to compress the springs. Just put a good floor jack under the axle and jack it up undo the bolts, put the frame on jack stands and lower the floor jack and put your bottle jack on top of the axle and jack the axle down. This will allow you to get the springs out and in.
I will need to compress the Shock to get it mounted won't I?

the monroes that were on it could be compressed using one hand while lying under the truck. The Bilsteins are a diffferent story - needs my body weight behind it - so tying them up before hand might make it easier.
I don't have floor jacks etc. just the bottle from the truck - and it is on the way out (note to self: don't use for jacking up house).
I think i can do the fronts with the wheel on as well. undo lower mount, undo tower, remove through engine bay?

Yeah if you do them that way you will need to compress them a bit. Maybe invest in a floor jack one of these days. Harbor Freight and Sears have a good chinese 3 ton floor jack that is on sale all the time for $70. Get jack stands too if you plan on DIYing. That bottle jack can be scary at times.
