Default Bizarre Odometer Issue!

Bought a 2003 Disco 3 months ago from a dealer with 73k on it. Car Fax checked out fine. History was solid showing 12-15k a year was put on the car. I put 5k on the car since I bought it and last time I looked maybe a week ago, I had 78k on the car. This morning I came out and the car had 125K on the odometer!!! The only thing I remember doing last week was disconnecting the battery and remove the under the hood fuse box to clean all the contacts on it. When I put it back, the car ran perfect and showed the 78k so I can't imagine that is it. Has anyone ever heard of this? Can a dealer roll back a digital odometer only to have higher mileage appear on it months later? Needless to say I am freaking out.

Looks like someone took your truck for a really long joy ride. Legally I don't think that a dealer could roll back the odometer but perhaps if you could show some evidence of what happened they could help you.

I don't think it flipped over to Kilo., the only way to correct it is to get it to a shop or dealer who has the proper scanner and have it reset. You actual mile should still be stored in the ECU.

Doing the math it could be that it switched to kilometers. 78k miles converts to about 126k km.

Read the owners manual about the speedo, does mention switching back and forth by holding the trip button down for 2 or more seconds.

I am betting it switched to KM.

After looking at the D2 manual that is part of RAVE, it does say to hold the reset button for more than 2 seconds to switch between miles and kilometers.

Yes. It switched to Kilometers. Somehow either swapping out all the relays to clean them reset it to kilometers or I accidentally held down the trip reset longer than 2 seconds to do it inadvertantly. Either way I reset it this morning and it is back to miles. Very relieved. Thanks for all the help!
