blown engine
I am a new member to this web site. I have a 2002 Discovery II with 135K miles. I have been having problems for a few months with oil and antifreeze leeks. Well the engine went on me last week (no compression). the rest of the discovery is in very good condition. I am thinking of having a rebuilt placed in the truck. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions and places too purchase an engine. I did find a place in Oklahoma. How much should a rebuilt cost and how much should I be charged for the installation? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.
Scooter22,
Bad luck on the engine failure - we all acknowledge these engines take constant vigilance but the "drive" is worth it.
For rebuild only go with someone reputable that can show proof of and give you contacts for engines they have done. Another great way to investigate is to find out who the shops around you are using. In other words, a lot of the Rover shops don't do the actual rebuild they farm it out - find out if they are all farming it out to the same place and then decide if you want to do the labor yourself and work directly with the rebuild. Saves a lot of money but is a lot of work.
If you want to buy a drop in, give serious consideration to Roverland Parts in Florida. They buy totals in the 40-60k mileage range, pull the engines, test them and warranty them. They will be able to give you the VIN and mileage of what they came out of and you can verify via Carfax or equivalent. I have not bought an engine from them but other significant parts and have been pleased both with service and that the parts have been exactly as described.
Good luck

The first couple places I'd talk to about buying a replacement engine would be Will Tillery (http://www.RoverGuy.com) and PT Schram (http://www.ptschram.com/). I think PT chimes in here sometimes.
Will actually has one listed in the Parts section over on D-Web...d2 4.0 non sec air engine...83948 miles
If these guys don't have an engine for you, they can probably recommend someone reputable who does. I've done business with both, and I'd not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They're both great to deal with...
