Question On-board air compressor

I have a 2004 Discovery SE, without ACE. The engine has the bracket for the ACE pump and I'm wondering if anyone has tried mounting an A/C compressor there for use as an Air Compressor. This is a popular mod. on Jeeps but they use the old York compressors and I'm not sure if a rotary style or squash-plate type will work because of the way they lubricate. Any thoughts?

the old yorks are used for a reason..they can lubricate themself without putting oil in the lines.

The smaller rotary ones need oil in the lines to keep them lubricated unfortunaly. I wish I had enough room under my hood or I'd have me a York myself.

Any update with this? My 04 has no ACE pump either so I would be interested as well as it's a perfect spot. You can get in-line oilers which you would just need to make sure are full.

It's really not hard to just mount an ARB air compressor, I recently did an install myself.

I have heard of using old York compressors from old Volvos, but I do not have any details on the install.
