Default Bonnet Release Cable vs Lever

I hope someone can shed some light on this topic for me. My 2000 Disco has always had a cable protruding from the front grille to release the hood, which I thought was standard. There’s no lever inside to release the hood. Am I just now realizing I might be missing an internal lever? P.s. Please excuse the hammer, duct table, and zip ties....

Hood release cable from AB comes with lever attached, $34.

I don't know if it's a "common" failure, but that cable is known to break. Happened with my truck in mid-2010.

Here's a pic of the lever in my truck, just to show where it mounts. Installation is a little tedious, but not difficult.

I would expect nothing less regarding the installation (lol). The previous owner put an on/off switch on the bracket, which I assume went to a light bar, although I have not traced it and found its exit. Because of that I didn't realize that the bracket should have a lever on it. Thank you for the pic!

I had Redrover's bonnet open for something else and took a look at the release cable. From the firewall to the behind the headlight is simple; it merely lies atop the inner wing.

If you decide to replace the cable on your truck let me know and I may be able to get a few pics to help you out. Or, there may be a YouTube video on the topic.

There is currently no cable, so I' would 100% take you up on the pics. Thank you!

Seems quite utilitarian and useful actually.

But perhaps not secure in an urban environment.

Easy to buy and install a new hood cable.
