Default Bosch to Gems intake conversion

Anyone tried swapping from Bosch to the gems intake manifold? I just like the looks of the gems in comparison, although there will be slight performance decrease. ANy thoughts or tries?

Looks as nothing will fit, all except the injector bosses. I’m going to attempt to “hybrid” this Bosch to gems intake manifold. Injector rail doesn’t fit since the back of the lower most manifold has a giant cast webb on the rear. I notched it some, just to clear the rail tubing.

Thats probably the best upgrade from d1 to d2

ive been working on swapping the bosch on a 14cux, close enough to gems to know what doesnt work..

tps
idle air controller
fuel rail doesnt fit
intake hose doesnt line up with airbox
thermostat is completely different
throttle cable is very different
cruise control bulb mounts differently

I thought the GEMS engine only works with Lucas electrics and the THOR engine with Bosch electrics?

Nothing physically “bolts in” except for the lower manifold section to the heads. No real purpose other than looks and an attemp to hybrid the 2 intake manifolds. The rebuilt Bosch 4.0 I just finished and on a stand, except for the intake section. More progress should come later today. Picture is a little peek at the close-to-end result. Still have to strip the other side rocker cover as someone attempted to paint it.

i'm curious what the performance loss will be and if you will be able to feel it.

a dyno before and after would have been neat to see.

Sheesh. I have enough to do to simply keep up with repairs and maintenance. If I were to put time, energy and money into improving the looks of anything on my truck it wouldn't be the intake.

The engine rebuild process took approx 6 months to complete(head gasket kit with studs, new front cover w/timing gears and chain, self planned the heads and valve seals, light head rework, liner pinning). Going to replace my 4.6 SL edition with a quiet 4.0 I had in another truck. Aside from the looks and alleged performance loss, this could help out on the D1 side of things. I haven’t seen another post with this conversion, both in this forum and others. With this said, I do have another disco(the one with the 4.0) I had a turbo kit installed, I had put that project on hold so I can have time for this swap and conversion along with other “daily work”.

From Rave, allegedly the Bosch manifold with the longer runners is more efficient than the gems setup, however swapping the internal trumpets could yield different results as well. A dyno would be best and conclusive number wise, however, that interferes with the budget.
