Today I'm pulling off the right front rotor to swap out the ABS sensor and this one is even more seized than the other side!!

This is a prime example of the forces at play here:

What is that? is that a socket? Should it be a female socket, or is that an adapter?

Looks like a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter?

Yikes.

Ya I just had to exchange a set of harbor freight sockets for a new set because my 10mm socket literally cracked in half when I was working on my t-case cover plate!!!

Yes Dave, 1/2 to 3/8 adapter. For some reason the only 12 point 3/4" sockets I have are all 3/8 and those damn caliper bolts are on so tight that adapter just twisted like butter! I've never seen that happen before. Anyways the good news is I did finally get them off and swapped out the senson. All good!

It took me a good two hours to get the rotor screws out. Now I am wishing I had not put new ones in. I got replacements through rover parts.com

Screw Brake Rotor Locator 4.0/4.6 (Part # SF108201L) - Land Rover bolts\clamps\brackets\washers from Atlantic British

Just for reference. Sounds like they are not needed.

I never put mine back in - but don't forget there is a proper tool for their removal - "Hammer Screwdriver" - Makes these far easier to deal with. I heated mine up with a small propane torch then gave it a couple good whacks. When you hit it, it turns MAYBE 1/8th of a turn or 1/16. But generally, that's all you need, and can just lightly unscrew them.

This isn't the one I have, but you'll get the idea:

Impact Screwdriver Set with Case

When I did my brake job on all four wheels I didn't have all this trouble. The bolts came right out with a rubber mallets help and the retaining screws on the discs came right out too. I did have to go buy a #3 Phillips head bit. I didnt have one that big and the #2 I had was trying to ring the screws out. Got that #3 Phillips Head bit and it worked perfectly. CRAFTSMAN
