Default Brake Fluid Question

Planning to replace pads, rotors and add stainless brake lines. Steel brake line kit comes with 2 quarts Castrol DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid. I am not sure what is in the system now - is most brake fluid already synthetic? Want to be sure it's safe to add this new fluid to the system. I guess by removing most fluid with a baster and flushing with 2 quarts would likely be OK?

It's probably got DOT3, but DOT3 and DOT4 are fine to mix.
