Default Brake pedal soft

My brakes went bad and I relaced them. After replacing them I also bled the brakes. The pedal is soft and spoongy. I can stop but if there ever was an emergency forget about it. They weren't like this before the brake change. I did have to leave my disco sitting for about a month without driving it. I did start it and took all the usual precautions. My ABS light is on, however it has been on since about a month after I bought it. I have driven it for over a year with no problems until now. Thank you for ant advice.

I know it sounds a little redundant, but have you tried bleeding them again? sometimes the master cylinder gets a little low and sucks in air. Then you have to bleed them again...

Was it squishy right after you bled them?

Just out of curiosity, did you change your rotors too? What type of pads did you use?

I used a "one man brake bleader" would a vac bleader do any better? I did not replace the rotors. I did buy Bendex pads from Advanced Auto Parts.

If you can have someone as a pedal pusher, that is the best way in my book. I tried one of those vacuum bleeders on my BMW and ended up making it worse. I am sure it was just me, though.

I prefer to have someone stand on the pedal, so I know I am not getting any air in. It took me 2 weeks to convince my girlfriend to sit in the truck and do it, but I got a big difference. If it isn't too much trouble, try it. Someone else might have another idea.

Good Luck

Jason

X2 with the (manual bleeding) it does take a little longer but you do get a better (feeling) pedal.

X3 on the 2 man bleeding.Buy 2 qts. of brake fluid and redue the flush to get rid of the air. Once that is done, if you want more pedal pressure, replace the rubber brake lines with stainlees steel, they don't expand like the old rubber hoses and in general work much better.

2 man bleeding! And change the fluid - brake fluid isn't good forever.
