Default Is the brake pedal switch even needed?

I've been rewiring some stuff and ended up with disconnected wires at the brake pedal switch. I deleted the shift interlock and cruise control. Reading through the electrical manual, I see no purpose now for the brake pedal switch. Is this correct? My brake lights still work!

Scratch that. Definitely needed. When I was testing it solo, I jammed a crowbar into the pedal and checked the brake lights - on - good. But didn't realize that the brake pedal switch is NC normally closed. Took crowbar out... brake lights still on
