Default Brake Repair

I had a shop replace the pads, rotors the RR caliper last week.

When I drove home, the LR wheel was smoking and the rotor was blue. From self-heat treating I imagine.

They claim it is just not bled properly an that should fix it.

I drove about 15 highway miles since then.

What do you think needs to be replaced? Pads, rotor?

Thanks,

Can't see how not bleeding would cause a rotor heat issue.

Pads need to 'bed in' for the first few miles. During that time you run a risk of being too heavy with them, and creating a hard, glassy layer on the surface. This lessens braking effect, so you press harder, making it worse. They should have explained that to you.

Are you saying everything is fine, after the 15 miles? Or you still have an issue?

I am familiar with bedding them. I normally do all my own work, just not time lately and these had to be done.

This morning, the second time i drove it. My unscientific test was touching the rotors after i parked. The RR was fairly warm. The LR was too hot to touch. There definitely some drag or other issue with the LR brake.

You most likely have a sticking caliper. If they got that hot, then the pads probably have heat damage now too.

Sticking Caliper or a stuck guide pin.

Hello Drow....

Something sticking. Guide pins are easy to swap, and great for peice of mind. And cheap.

Yes sorry, guide pins are also a distinct possibility.

It appears they are saying the caliper is sticking.

They are replacing the caliper, rotor and allegedly the pads. Charging me $30 for brake fluid and $85 for the part.

I am pretty sure they screwed up and trying to CYA.

Well, that's a touch irritating, as you don't get to check out the guide pins, which I think the full kit cost $12 for all corners.

As it's not the one they fitted, can't really argue. You will end up with two new calipers on the back. Which is nice to have I 'spose.

I know, don't remind me. That is why i dislike having someone else do my work. But that is cost of not having time.
