Default 2002 Discovery II - to repair or not to repair?

I purchased our
02 Discovery"><span style=02 Discovery" /> 02 Discovery">02 Discovery
from a member 2.5 years ago. They had it since almost new and I bought it knowing it needed repairs- heads (only paid $2K because of this). I put about $3600 into heads and rebuild. Ran great. Currently has about 130K miles. Developed a coolant leak recently due to a hole in a hose. This caused it to overheat and now I'm facing repairing the heads AGAIN and replacing the http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=radiator. Another $3500 or so... Vehicle is in good shape, but I hate to spend that kind of $$ on it again. My wife was the driver so unfortunately I did not get to the issue quick enough to catch it from causing the damage it did.

So, the question is do I put that amount of money in it again or sell it "as is" for a little bit of money (maybe $1100 or so). KBB value only comes up around $3500...

Thanks for the input!

If it were me I would fix it myself for around $600 or sell it and buy another that has had the heads done.

These rigs are borderline impossible financially to own if you don't do the work yourself. A Land Rover will turn you into a mechanic if you don't watch out.

I would not pay 3500 to have it repaired. Heads are a well do center repair and can be done for less than 1/3 of that. Also what about liners and other common failures. Your not gonna get much for it by selling it either.

My Land Rover turned me into a mechanic real fast. If I were you, find a set of used heads and install them yourself. My buddy bought heads for his P38 RR (4.6L BOSCH) for $250 at a salvage yard. Do it yourself because $3500 just doesn't make sense.

Please takes the heads to a machine shop for refurbishing. Last thing you want to do is all the labor associated with an HG job to find that they are warped, seals are leaking, etc.

I sell refurbed heads for $400 plus shipping If you decide to tackle the job yourself.

Thank you guys for the feedback and advice.
I'm now weighing my options as to what to do next. Seems that the bulk of the cost associated with the repairs is built into the labor...

yes, i've seen labor hovering around $150/hr at independent shops. Like everyone else says but, maybe i can add clarity to - either commit to fixing it yourself from here on out (which is highly rewarding - far more than i expected) or sell it because you didn't win the lottery..

more thinking on it than that and I gotta believe you're wasting your time
