Default Brake and reverse lights on bumper

Looking for some guidance. I noticed my driver side housing hanging out of the bumper. Lens was burnt from the exhaust. Now the brake and reverse lights don't work. I thought maybe the socket got melted so I ordered a repair socket. Hard to find.

Is their any other place or thing I should check. Fuse 25 is good. What has me confused is both sides are out on the bumper.

Are your brake and reverse lights on the bumper? My 2001 bumper lights are indicators and fog lights. Maybe that changed in '03 with the "facelift"?

99-02 = Rear Fog & Indicators
03-04 = Rear Fog & Reverse

The lights are the same from 99-04, just different wiring and colors. The bigger question is why would this melt from your exhaust. That indicates a problem.

I am betting that the clip broke, and the light housing fell out, swung down and that's how it was melted. Or was it melted up in the bumper?

Same thing happened to me - clips popped off and the light swung down and hung in front of the exhaust. Fortunately I just replaced the lens and it was fine. I’d double check to confirm damage to the actual bulb housing - perhaps corrosion or melted wires.
