Rotella 15w-40 dino oil is what I use in warmer months and T-6 synthetic 5w-40 in the colder months.

i have used rotella 15w40 dino since i got my rover 20k miles ago. but my last oil change i put 5w40 rotella t6 synthetic in it. will it affect the engine at all to switch back and forth? if i choose to use the dino 15w40 in the hotter summer months for my next oil change. and then back to the synthetic 5w40 next winter? just curious, both oils make the engine run really well, im very pleased with them

IMO it does not make a difference as long as you drain and re-fill (w/new filter of course) every 5K and keep the right weight per temperature.

You kinda answered your own question with the quote "both oils make the engine run really well, im very pleased with them"!

Forget the "T's" and the "6's" and the "whatever's" and just buy 15w-40 for the summer and 5w-40 for the winter, all you care about is the viscosity and the brand.
Rotella is a well known and well respected motor oil and you can buy it almost anywhere.
So if you are on vacation and you need to add a quart you can find it easily.

I've got a question about oil as well. I've been running 20w-50 for the past year(Castrol, Valvoline, Penzoil). I'd like to switch to a lighter weight, and synthetic if possible for a bit better gas mileage. My concern is that my car has about 130,000 miles, and I currently have no oil leaks at all(I think it's a first) and just replaced a head gasket. I'm afraid that switching to a lighter weight might cause seeping or encourage another leak to pop up.

Is it worth the change or should I just stick to conventional 20w-50? (NC Weather btw)
