Question Break in procedure?

I replaced the block, a head, three pistons, cam bearings, main bearings, and rod bearings. I got some 15w-40 diesel oil as I saw recommended on this forum for break in. I will then change to oil to normal after 500 miles. Does this sound good? I will also pull the fuel pump fuse and crank so I can prime the oil pump. When I get it started what do I have to do? Anything special to seat the rings? I read something about having it at high rpm for a certain amount of time, and some kind of differed driving style, but i'm not sure.

The fuel in the car is about 5 years old. I will empty the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in, but will it be a problem that there is bad fuel still in the fuel lines?

I’m glad to hear that you’re getting rid of the old fuel. A lot of people try to justify using it. Personally I wouldn’t worry about the old fuel in the lines. It will clear out quickly.

Quality diesel oils have more zddp content (zinc and some other vitamins) that tend to make flat tappet cams last longer.

Valvoline vr1 is the new go to for zddp for the flat tappets.
