broke a bolt in the trans pan...

It is very light weight bolt. I would try just drilling with a bit and then stick a sheet metal screw in it. More than likely it will twist right out. It's just aluminum case and very week bolts.
I did the same on mine and ran and got an extractor at hardware store. Took longer to go to the store then to drill and remove it.

This sounds like you got too rambunctious as its only a 6mm bolt!
Suggest you go to Grainger and purchase a cobalt L/H drill bit say in 1/8th (3 mm).
Carefully centre pop the broken bolt stub and with the left hand drill try to drill the shank. If you merely broke it off the drill might and I emphasis might, grab the work piece and back it out.
(Got lucky with a Volvo S80 12mm head bolt last week the same way)
If you crossed the bolt in the threads because you didn't align the pan clamps properly and you forced it then you may have to drill the whole piece out and insert a helicoil. (6 x 0.8 mm)
If you are careful you can just get the enough meat in the transmission casting to take the helicoil..
Now remember if the parts store doesn't have 6 x 0.8 you can always elect for 6x1.00 mm but do use a new allen bolt of the same thread pitch.
Best of luck and do use protective eye wear if attempting this!

I too broke a bolt head off when doing my filter.
I also could not get an extractor small enough to grab the stud.
I ended up bending the stud to about a 45* angle, then grabbing it with needle nose vice grips (along the "horizontal" plane, so to speak). A few back n' forths and it should break loose. At that point, clip the vice grip so it points straight up the stud and unscrew.
