Default Broke down in Lexington South Carolina

On my way to myrtle beach with girlfriend and 2 dogs when the thermostat housing exploded. If anybody is near Lexington and has a DII thermostat housing please contact me. I have the thermostat, just need another housing.

No. The D2 thermostat is a complete assembly, not made to be taken apart. There are junkyards in Columbia, might have a D2.

You might be able to plumb together with pipe fittings and run with no stat to slowly get home.

What housing are you talking about? The thermostat is one piece that has three clamps holding on the hoses. There is no housing? Are you talking about some other part?

The parts boys don't know what is inside - look inside and you'll see the thermostat parts. They don't sell them very often.

And another problem - 1999 is a cross over year. D1 phased out, D2 introduced. If you have a D2 the thermostat is mounted to the hoses. If you have a D1 then a metal housing is there that has a Chevy style thermostat inside. Big hose from there to top inlet of radiator.

Parts stores frequently confuse the year. Here is a pix of the D1 engine, and the main hose from radiator to thermostat housing. If your engine does not look like this, then you have the three legged plastic thermostat. There is a Rover dealer in Columbia as well.

Yeah, It's the 3 legged plastic housing. I'm only 13 miles from the dealership in Columbia. I guess they were closed today for Labor Day, nobody answered the phone.

Yes, that is what they carry in the stores. You can't cut the "3 legged plastic housing" off and replace the metals bits inside! It's all one assembly, here's a picture from the Autozone website (who already told you they have it in stock):

They said they do not carry the housing but I will call again tomorrow. The t-stat is encased inside the plastic housing. I see no way to cut and replace.

They may think this type of housing on a 1999 Discovery D1. You may have better luck with calling it a 2000 Disocvery.

and this type of thermostat (and neither of these fit a D2)
