Default Budget roof top tent

Are there any reputable cheap roof top tents preferably sub 1000$. I plan on going camping a few times this year and I’d really like a roof top tent and the only reasonable one I’ve seen under 1000$ is a smittybilt. I don’t need anything crazy just a cheap rooftop tent and not a on the ground tent I already have one. Also have safety devices roof rack

If you aren't hung up on rooftop only consider one of these. They are very functional and keep you high and dry, just not as high as the roof. If the weather turns and it gets rainy/windy you'll appreciate being down low.

Depends, you can get a Smittybilt or Tepui Ayer for around that, but they are 2 person tents. Most very budget tents are unnamed out of China, you can do better on those but I have no idea where you find one in your area. Here in BC there are 2 or 3 guys who bring them in.

Ideally you want lightweight, but as you are looking for cheap think about why you need one, in my case it came down to 3 things:
  • Convenience - it can be hard to find clear space to put a ground tent
  • Lots of rain in the PNW the ground can get muddy fast and stay that way for days
  • The ground here is often very rocky so lots of raking to get space
The tent cot is a good compromise, just not what I wanted.
