Roof Weight Capacity
What's the max capacity that the LR3's roof can take? I ended up reading a lot of info on the DII, but nothing (or my search syntax is incorrect) on the LR3. I like the tent idea, but with that, rack system, AND people, I'm thinking a comical, midnight, cave-in.
Thanks in advance.

There was a little discussion on this topic over on the disco3 board a few days ago. Basically, Land Rover does not publish a "maximum weight" for the roof. I believe they publish a maximum weight for their roof rack which is only in the neighborhood of 150-160 lbs, but IIRC the LR roof rack mounts to the factory crossbars, which would lead one to believe that in reality, that weight limit is more a function of the crossbars than the rack or especially the roof mounting locations.
Also, I think that Baja Racks publishes the weight limit of their rack for the LR3 as about 600 lbs. Does that mean that the LR3 can take 600 lbs? I dunno.
The only thing I can tell you is this: I have a Front Runner roof rack and have been up on the top myself. Sure feels pretty sturdy to me. That particular rack mounts to the Front Runner rails (at 4 locations per side) which replace the factory rails. Since the rails bolt directly to reinforced points on the roof and the roof is designed to withstand a rollover event, I have to believe it's designed to take quite a bit of weight. I can't tell you for certain, but I don't think there would be any problem putting a rack, tent, and two average sized adults up on the roof... so long as you're staying off the glass of course.

If you want to be solid and safe you buy a Baja Rack, and they publish the max weights their units can handle. I believe it's over 600lbs.
The total vehicle weight could be calculated with total gross vehicle weight.
I can certainly say, that once you stick a roof top tent on, it will be far more tippy, I've followed a lot of vehicles on the trail with them.
I think loading up the vehicle with a rack, tent, accessories is ok. Once the vehicle is stationary and flat, adding people in the tent should not be an issue.
