Default To buy or not to buy

I found a 99 D2 with 164000 miles for $800. It runs but the head gaskets are leaking. I wouldn't mind having a D2 but I don't mind my D1. What do you think?

If the head gasket is the only problem I would go for it -- I'll take it!

Depends on what else is wrong with it. If it's rusted, has electrical problems, tranny leaking, dashboard lit up like a christmas tree, etc.... then you might be buying a money pit.

For a few hundred you can fix the headgaskets, but at that mileage you will be looking at a lot of other maint items if they haven't been done already. I just went through and did a lot of maint on a new to me 01 Disco, and have put a little over a grand in it so far doing head gaskets, front timing cover gasket, timing chain and gears, all new hoses, thermostat, belt, water pump, 8mm wires, plugs, air filter, and 2 new O2 sensors. Now I'm getting ready to re-build the front and rear drive shafts just to make sure they don't cause me any issues either.

The '99 can be what you make it. If it looks good, and reg maint has been done, I'd go for it! Especially if you like working on things, and you've got a garage to do it in.
