To Buy or Not To buy is the Question
Hey Guys thanks for taking the time to help me out.
I got a big Question Should I buy a 95 Land Rover Discovery for 800 dollors its in poor condition but wouldnt take much to get up to its 4X4 life the one major problem is that it has a blown head gasket on it.
166,500
SE7
not much rust
and new brakes
I had a 97 before and loved it I been wanting one back every since I jumped into the hell hole of the BMW sports car witch isnt that bad but the tickets over the last 3 years are killing me.
So heres the question buy the 95 or hold of for some thing a little better
Thanks for the help Guys Greg

RE: To Buy or Not To buy is the Question
bmwboy - I suppose if you like "projects" that would may be a great one to pick up. You get what you pay for usually, and I'd guess that for $800 a lot more work would be needed than a head gasket - although your plans for use of the vehicle may dictate how pressing fixing many of those issues will be. I personally would spend the money to buy one thats in better shape, but then again I have very little patience and even less mechanical aptitude.
Out of curiosity, what year/model BMW do you own? I ask because I'm a big time BMW fan (and owner).

If the transmission & transfer case are in good shape then it's probably worth $800 in used parts alone. If you've got the time and somewhere to work on it it sounds like a good little project. I'd willing to pay up to $1200 for the right Disco parts vehicle ifI had somewhere to keep it. I think a used/rebuilt motor will cost around $1500? I've seen them from $1200-$2000. You could just try changing the head gasket on your motor but if it overheated bad then you might run into other problems like a cracked head or leaking cylinder sleave?
