You probably won't get get in the garage? Most garage doors in the US are a 7ft std height from what I've seen. My disco is about 7'2" with the rack on. I'm looking at buying a car port that's atleast 8ft to make sure I have plenty of clearance. I hit an over head pipe in one of the malls at Xmas LOL. (Just scraped it and backed out)

I see your side Suede... You make good points. I plan on installing a rack and leaving it up there though. Sunroofs weren't installed on my Disco and if they were I believe the rack I want would allow for them to function. I do participate in Triathlons from time to time but I just fold my rear seats down and and throw my bike in and that keeps it dry and clean from the elements.
At least none of you have said "Dont do it, you will forever regret it!"

Mine has turned out to be very useful. No regrets. Mine is a Surco full length (84"s) which is a cheaper one. I scored it off Craigs for $300 from a guy with a Defender. I even used mine to haul a shed I bought from Lowes (in flat pack 9ft box). It kind of gives you some of the abilities of a pickup. The only down sides are (with the Surco) wind noise and I can feel the drag from it in a head wind. The Surco has square section tubing which seems to generate more noise. However it is made of Aluminum which keeps it light.
