Default Buying 2001 Disco!

Hi All,

I am a first time LR buyer, and I found a 2001 Disco II SE with 90K miles. Im posting to ask a few questions.

1. The seller is asking $9950. Is this too much? The KBB says it should be around $5000 but I cant find any other Disco at that price
2. What are some common problems that I could run into when buying an older molder like this? In the car fax it doesn't list any kind of major replacement or work done, so I worry about the life span on the engine/parts that it has now since they seem to be the originals.

I would appreciate any kind of response

Caleb

$9,950 is way off the mark. More like $3,500 to $4,000 depending on location.

Common problems, well I would suggest reading up on the Land Rovers as there is a lot of great information that outlines the common and not so common issues that cause the owners to spend money.

The first things I would look at are:
1. When were the head gaskets replaced
2. 3 amigos
3. coolant system

Get a code reader if you are serious about a Land Rover and check the codes to see what is showing up and what may have been hidden.

A link to the truck's classified would be great so we can also look at the truck and provide feedback.

The link to the history is here. I was skeptical of the price, If I choose to buy I will definitely barter.
Thanks for the reply

The battery was replaced before it was delivered to the first owner

I ran the KBB for that Rover in Very Good condition and I came up with $2880. That is not trade in value that is sale to private party value.

What part of the country are you in?

Keep watching craigslist!

There are a couple on there now that are cheaper and have had the head gaskets done.

Way too much. I got my 01 with 100k for just under $3k. And it has a few upgrades.

Keep looking, they always come up at the right mark. Good luck!

I just picked one up for $600 in pretty good condition. Just replaced the crank sensor and drove it an hour home. $9k is way too high. I'd pay $5k for one that had had head gaskets, oil pump, and driveshaft replaced. Maybe $6k if it was in reeeeaaally nice shape.

I'll sell mine for $10k...as that's how much I have in it now. Some assembly required, lol.
Or, classic Craigslist, "I might fix it, but the price will go up if I do".

All these things need work, so if it has a high price, it better look and run great, and have a stack of reciepts with it.
Otherwise, get a cheap one and fix it up.
Picture a wood stove, door open, fire blazing, and you have a bucket of money, and a shovel.....
yeah, that's a Land Rover.
