Buying decision
While looking at Land Rovers, I feel in love with a 2003 Discovery, whch was the salesperson's car (and no, he didnt try to sell it to me, I spotted it in the parking lot and fell in love). After I bugged him a little, he is ready to sell it to me.
79000 miles, he wants $12999 for it.
I ran a Carfax report on it, and it is clean, two owners only as he said. He only had the car for 4 months, and says he only got it because he knew the original owner who had it for 9 years took great care of it and always did scheduled maintenance.
I checked the Vin number, and it is my understanding that it is out of the VIN death Range (#3A771801-3A808362, right?).
So, the big question is: should I buy it? After reading many reviews, I am getting scared of the 2003 discos. But I truly love the car.
And no, I would probably not do anything on it myself. What's your take on it?
Thanks a lot for all your good advice.

If it's out of the VIN 'death range', then there probably isn't any more to be afraid of than there is with any other D2. Since it's an '03 you won't be able to easily add the shifter for the locking transfer case...the transfer case doesn't have the requesite CDL nipple.
IMO, $13k is a very steep price to pay for an '03; even one in great condition. If you're patient, then I'd expect that you should be able to find one for significantly less than $10k in nice shape. (Certainly more miles, but similar condition...)
Personally, I'd keep looking for another one, but that's entirely up to you.

As mentioned, the 03 has no more issues than other DII's.
If you like it make an offer. The asking price is a bit high but good clean last years 03/04's are getting hard to come by in great condition.
Remember the 03 might not have CDL, I found this out of course after I bought my 03' without it.
