After what all these experienced people told U, I bet U will go ahead and buy the truck, right! hahaha......... When u said its in great condition, were u talking about looks? Because in great condition, I would think is a new engine, with all the bugs worked out, and no wiring issues (that can be big problem since its your first car, as U said yourself, at least have someone more experienced take a look at it B4 purchase). The fact that U say valve covers R little oil'y, means head-gasket hasn't been done right? Don't want to offend U,( but how much is the great deal?), so someone here can tell U if it really is a great deal, so at least U don't overpay too much to begin with.

I'd stay away from 03' and 04' myself.....and like everyone else is writing, they are awesome rigs, love mine too, but you better be a mechanic, unless you have some money to spend at the shop. Better have money alone for the parts your going to be buying!! AND a second rig!! hahahaahaha
So without starting a flaming session, what would consider reasonable oil consumption for a 96k 4.6? I thought that mine was "ok" but I may be incorrect. At least its not making a mess of my driveway anymore!

The dealer actually told me more than once that they don't get concerned until it is over one quart per 1000 miles. Then they might listen to you complain.

As a note to a poster upthread, regarding rolling with your pals the three amigos, that means you have no traction control or ABS for quickly stopping your hulking two and a half tons of glistening steel and aluminium.

that's because if its less than that they don't have to do anything under a new car warrantee, doesn't mean its right just means they don't have to fix it.

1/2 a quart of oil consumed between oil changes (3-4k) is "kinda" acceptable of a v8 with well over 100k on the clock (your still on barrowed time, my opinion), Under a 100k you shouldnt be burning any oil. My 4.0 has 138k on the clock, and uses 0. There is something wrong with your motor.
