A/C Blower Motor Upgrade?
the hamster wheel is clean as a whistle...may need to find a donor blower out of a Pontiac soon!- Street Wolf, How easy of a mod was this would you say? Any tips are most welcomed!
Wow! And I was happy when that extra can of 134A I found (what the heck, can't hurt, can it?) produced 41 degrees with ambient temp at 95. I guess we know who the new king of cold air is. My hat's off to you, Wolfie.
....and my tail lights still make me smile everytime I see them. Thanks again.

Oh, and you're welcome.

- There is only the electrical plug and three T-25 torx bit screws holding the blower motor and cage in, so that's a cinch to remove.
- The 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix will have the motor much in the same position, and it too is only held in by the electrical connector and three torx screws (Can't remember what size, maybe T-20 or T-25 as well)
- You're going to want to cut the the electrical plug, and a fair amount of wire as you can manage from the Grand Prix and bring that with you too. (Enough wire for you to work with and splice it later)
- Once you have both motors sitting side by side, remove the fans/squirrel cage/hamster wheel from them both. You do this on the Land Rover unit by removing the clip clearly visible in the center, and then using two flathead screwdrivers placed between the cage and the motor on opposite sides, prying the cage upwards. Do the same thing to the Grand Prix unit (It doesn't even have a clip in the center to remove)
- Drill the center of the Land Rover cage out where the shaft was, so that the Grand Prix motor shaft will now fit. (Be sure to start out small with the drill bit, you want it only large enough to be able to be forced tightly down onto the Grand Prix motor shaft)
- The three holes on the Grand Prix unit do not line up with the three holes on the Land Rover's cage housing, however the Grand Prix has large tabs where the factory holes are drilled. So simply slide the unit back into place in your Land Rover, hold it up by hand, and mark where the new holes need to be drilled. Then go drill those three holes.
- Once this is all done, you can mount the unit if you want. However there is one more thing you will need to do. Cut the pigtail off of your old Land Rover A/C motor, splice it with the connector your removed from the Grand Prix, and now you have an electrical adapter that still uses the factory Land Rover plug coming out of the dash, but now has a Pontiac Grand Prix connector to be plugged into your new Grand Prix motor.
(So yeah, it sounds like a lot, and looks like a lot when it's all typed out like that, but it's pretty straight forward and simple. Sorry if it's hard to understand in places, just tell me. I didn't proof read any of it.)
(Also, if anyone gets serious about doing this themselves, and needs me to be more specific and provide pictures, just ask and I will do my best)

To replace an expensive blower it is a good idea. If existing system won't get cold, then other problems may be there. AC usuually colder with slower moving air. If all it took was more cubic feet per minute, I'd just have a faster fan on the second floor of one of my buildings, instead of 95 tons of cooling vs 60 for the first floor. But yes, I think on high the fan should blow the cap off your head.
Either way, you can't see anything that the cover should be hiding, unless you bend down and actually take a look.
Here's my writeup with photos on how to remove and service your existing fan. You can use most of it for the swap that Street Wolf is describing.

If you find debris in there like I had in my photos, that might be your problem...
