Default A.C.E Pump whirring noise b/w idle and 1800rpm

Hi guys first post here, Just aquired a 99 Discovery V8, 160,000kms never seen a sniff of dirt since new, it has ACE and the pump has a whirring sound between idle and approx 1800 - 2000 rpm. Its louder inside the drivers seat than outside the vehicle, I have checked for vibration in the Hyd lines from pump to the Block located under the drivers side and there was some minor vibration but by slightly moving the lines away from each other it hasnt made any noticeable drop in noise, also on deceleration there can sometimes be a slight vibration through the steering column which i can only assume is linked with the ACE vibration. It seems more prominent when the system is warming up and when at normal operating temp the ACE still has the noise, but less vibration. The system is full of good clean Hyd fluid and is swirling nicely in the reservoir and it all seems to be working as it should, just makes noise, is this normal? Ive had a 97 series 1 and loved it and this one i also love and would love even more if able to eliminate this problem or even minimize it somewhat, any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Probably never serviced. I would suggest you do my major service listed at the top of this section before you do too much driving and flushing out the ACE would be a great place to start since your fluid is probably fried.
Shout if you want any help with this.

I agree with Disco Mike.... I also have the ACE system which had a "whirring" noise... I had all my fluids flushed 15,000 miles ago.... No more noise with my ACE system... It has actually been totally reliable. Best advice to ANY Disco owner...KEEP FLUIDS FRESH!

If you haven't flushed your steering, do them both at the same time, buy 7 quarts of synthetic P/S fluid, 1 bottle of Lucas p/s additive and a turkey baster type hand pump, then send me your number and I'll walk you thru doing both at the same time.

Thanks for the advice, i did change the ACE Pump Liquids, using an extraction pump, the fluid was a brownish colour, similar to that of a burnout auto transmission, the viscosity seemed ok and no odour to it, I have replaced the fluid and have now been running it for approx 2 months and the noise has not changed, I have re-checked the fluid and it is still fresh looking so it hasnt been contaminated with older fluid left in the lines since change. im thinking as it was probably so fried before i changed it the pump has suffered some internal valve damage. any further info would be appreciated thanks.

If you don't have a warning light on, it is not fried. How much fluid did you use when you flushed the system, did you put a bottle of Lucas in it?
Some, even brand new ACE pumps can be noisey, may have to live with it.
