For some reason I get a lot of leaf debris in my fan. I've taken it out to clean out the accumulated leaf stuff a few times and always removed the glove box as described in the service manual. Getting the glove box back in and aligned is the hardest part of the job for me.

@04duxlr - I'm not sure. I know that when I was there, I was contemplating changing the bearings for ball, but decided it was going to be too hard with the ONLY blower motor that I had. I was afraid to break/tweak something and be without my heater in sub freezing weather. I've changed them in other motors, but didn't need them as badly.

@Savannah Buzz - I forgot about that. It was pretty smooth, so I think I'll be ok, but that is exactly what I've done on other motors when replacing the brushes.

@aarongregor - Thank you, and I HOPE this is a long time fix. I won't know right away though...

@Colorado David - I did not need to remove the glove box, but maybe mine is different for some reason. 'S' model, less in there??? Also, I'm guessing the Plenum Filter parts are what were supposed to keep the leaves out. I'll be replacing that filter shortly, mine's gone.

PS: My fan is MUCH quieter now. But along with the oil, I'm guessing getting out the filter parts probably helps that as much as anything. It's now balanced much better, also lending to a longer life.

Great write up, good pix. One way to reduce the leaf input is to cut a piece of that rough texture DIY air filter material (looks like a BBQ grille sponge) and shove into fresh air intake, prevents leaves from being sucked down there in the first place.

 

Buzz, can you sticky this?. we need to get some of these DIY's all in one area...
