I've got a head scratcher for the deeply experienced D2 experts, or those who know way too much about bolts.

A few years ago I was at a scrap yard and came upon a dead D2 with what looked like rare factory differential guards. I of course jumped on them like a shark smelling blood. I'm finally getting around to installing them, and when installing the brackets for the front guard, I realize that the stock radius arm bolts are not long enough to accommodate the brackets. Apparently the donor D2 had longer bolts, but I failed to take them and that truck is long gone.

The stock front radius arm bolt is part # RYG501550 (ANR5804) and I need a bolt just like it, but about 15-20 mm longer. If any of you know of a LR part that fits this bill, or a place that sells metric flanged head bolt like RYG50155, please let me know. If you know who made this differential guard, that would help as well. Maybe I could track them down and buy the bolts from them.

I would be tempted to use your stock bolts but apply lock tight to the threads

 

A bolt is a bolt is a bolt. Why do you need "Land Rover" bolts. Just ID the specs of the bolts you have and source slightly longer ones elsewhere (Lowe's, The Home Depot, Menard's, Fastenal, etc.)?

 

go to fastenal with what you need and buy a longer grade 8 bolt. I'm not gonna trust a HD or Lowe's bolt for the radius arms, personally.

 

In the past I've wasted too many valuable hours going to various hardware stores trying to get an automotive bolt only to be disappointed. I'm looking for some expert help so I can possibly source what I need from an Interne retailer. I am not a mechanic nor do I play one on TV. I'm hoping someone out there might be able to provide some information to my question marks below, and then I'll be happy to go off and find my parts.

As has already been said, Fastenal isntour best bet. Take one of your bolts in and have them match it. If they don't have it in stock (which they probably do) then they can order it for you.

Particular applications (e.g. suspension and steering) will need bolts of different strengths. A bolt is NOT just a bolt in all cases.

 

Easiest solution is ebay. Lowes only goes up to M12

Flange Bolt M16 with 2.0 thread pitch. Then just measure your distance. 120mm in your case (this does not include the length of the flange) 10.9 grade.

Most large cities will have a specialty bolt and seal stores. In the Denver area, AAA Metric is the place to get any automotive fastener matched, and Rocket seals for any seal imaginable. As a former Automotive shop manager and mechanic, I've gone to them with some pretty odd and rare stuff, always had what I needed. Fastenal is great for some things, but lean more towards the construction trades. McMaster Carr is also great for online shopping, but you need to know what to look for, and can be difficult to find things IME. Maybe try searching your area for a place like AAA metric like we have here in Denver, good luck!
