is this normal to have that much play with the nut and flange off? I'm trying to trouble shoot a vibration issue at 70 mph and was thinking maybe a bent front diff flange.

Does the nut pull everything together and seat the two conical bearings and shims? Should there be this much play?

Thanks.

hi I have just done a diff on another car, yes its loose before you put the flange on and tighten the nut, now it needs to have the preload done, with the one I have just done it wa 9-11 in lbs, not a lot it just keeps every thing snug, I had to replace my crush spacer, on the diff, as the old one was 1/8in smaller than the new one so when I tighten up the flang nut it lock the pinion up solid,
so having had aquick look at the manual, it does not show a crush tube it sayes tighten it up to 74 ftlbd

as your pinion uses shims not a crush tube
