Ok, not quite a $300 tool. This is the one though. Made it easy peasy. If I'd had the money I honestly would've kept it.

Thanks for the tips Alex!
As you might have seen in my other thread, I have to do exactly that, the first 4 bearings...
I hope it's as straight forward as you made it to be here! I will buy the tool I suppose, maybe the 8milelake one, I heard good things about their tools and it's $100 CDN less than the Lisle.

Lemme know how it works out. I loved the tool I used, but cheaper is always better.

Say, Roby, your last name wouldn't be Barnhart would it?

Please let us know how your engine does with the Buick cam components? I'm very interested in a cheaper alternative for parts.

Will do, as soon as I get the oil pressure issue sorted. Still might be a couple weeks. Pretty busy right now.

Will do Alex. The tool from 8milelake seems identical to the lisle one and as I have no option to return it after I went with the cheaper one. I did inspect the pictures closely before though to make sure they were identical. I disn’t want to end up with a cheaply made tool.

Nope, Roby comes from my last name: Roberge

New cam should be here tomorrow, tool today and bearings on Friday or Monday.

Until then I’ll clean everything up so I’m ready to reassemble.

Wow, I just looked it up. The case and everything looks the same. I'm betting they came out of the same factory. Found another one that is "Performance Tools" branded on Amazon also, for $85 w/ prime shipping. My girlfriend's D2 is about to need head gaskets. Might splurge and get the tool at the same time to stick her some new bearings in.

Yeah, figures. I knew the chances were low, especially considering the Roby I knew wasn't in to cars. Worth asking anyway!

Alex, how did you get the wrench in to loosen/tighten the expander with the crank in? Did it fit easy? Did you have to modify a wrench?
Thanks!

I just made small adjustments outside the truck until it slipped into the bearing, but was tight enough to make contact with the bearing all around.

And you reached around the bottom to remove the old bearing and put the new one on the tool?
